Belle Vernon Area and Elizabeth Forward earned a split at Thursday’s swim meet, while each school had another swimmer post a WPIAL qualifying time.

The Warriors’ girls posted a 84-52 win as Maddy McClain qualified in the 500 freestyle at 5:42.31, nearly eight seconds under the WPIAL qualifying time.

“Our girls are very strong, although I don’t think they performed at their best tonight,” said EF coach Shawna Boden. “We’ve seen much better out of them but we are at that part of the year where we’re training pretty hard so I don’t expect to get the best times.

“We were hoping for a couple more WPIAL qualifiers tonight who just missed it. We have about three girls right on the cusp. We added one today, which I’ll take.”
