Harrison remembered for years of service

It’s been a dark couple of days in Carroll Township, where a longtime leader passed away this weekend.
Township Supervisors’ Vice Chairman James “Don” Harrison, 85, died Saturday after a long illness that some may not have known about because he stayed so active.
“He was ill for a long time and he has given us a lesson in courage,” township Solicitor Herman Bigi said. “You wouldn’t know it, because he didn’t complain. He continued to conduct his life.
“He went about doing township work and he worked up until the last as if there was no last. He was a wonderful man.”
Harrison served as a Monongahela councilman for 30 years before moving to Carroll Township. Harrison was appointed to the township supervisors board in June 2008 after longtime Chairman Lou Resovich died.
That enabled him to begin working side by side with his nearly lifelong friend Tom Rapp, board chairman, once again.
