Nineteen cats and kittens were removed from a house in White Oak early Friday morning and are currently under the care of Humane Animal Rescue in East Liberty.

“We got a tip from a Good Samaritan that there were cats in a house and they had been there since Saturday alone,” said Dan Rossi, the chief executive officer of Humane Animal Rescue.

Rossi said his agency got in touch with White Oak police and around 6 a.m. Friday went to the home on Lewis Street, where they found the cats alone in the house.

“The house was in deplorable condition,” Rossi said. “There was feces on the floor. There was inadequate food and water.”

Rossi said the heat and electricity were on in the house, but the water had been shut off.
