Not many Pennsylvania residents swim in February, but that won’t be true in California next weekend.
On Feb. 1, nearly 40 brave souls will plunge in to the Monongahela River for a worthy cause.
The California Area School District Foundation will host its seventh annual Frosty Frolic on Water Street at the Wharf in Coal Center.
Participants of all ages are encouraged to take part in the event, which raises money to provide grants, scholarships and other support to students and teachers in the California Area School District.
Since its inception, the event has raised more than $18,000 in direct scholarship money, awarding an average of 22 scholarships each year.
Walter MacFann, foundation president and Frosty Frolic Committee chairman, said in the past there have been challenges for swimmers, including weather.
