Shirley A. (née Hermann) Patch, 78, of Ruffsdale, died Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2020, peacefully at her home with her husband of 55 years by her side. She was born in Donora on Jan. 29, 1941, daughter of the late John and Marie Hermann Jr. She was a member of St. Michael’s Byzantine Catholic Church in Donora. Shirley was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan and enjoyed gardening, but mostly loved being with her family. Shirley graduated from Donora High School Class of 1958 and Pinkerton Business College. She worked at Duquesne Light Company in Pittsburgh until she married and settled in Morrisville, Pa., to raise her family. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, John Joseph Patch; and her brothers, John P. Hermann III and Ronald Hermann. Shirley is survived by her husband, William L. Patch, who was her wonderful caretaker and love of her life; her daughter, Cynthia R. Zdrojewski (Norbert) of Rostraver Township; a son, William L. Patch, Jr. of Carmel, Indiana; five grandchildren, Rachel Patch, Lauren Patch, Julia Zdrojewski, Jessica Zdrojewski and Joshua Zdrojewski; a sister, Joyce M. Krassa (Mark) of Las Vegas, Nev.; sister-in-law, Mary Hermann; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Arrangements are being handled by ANTHONY L. MASSAFRA FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION SERVICE INC., 40 Second St. Ext., Donora, PA 15033, 724-379-6900, www.massafrafuneralhome.com, where the family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 27, 2020. Panachida services will be recited in the funeral home at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2020, followed by a Funeral Liturgy at 11 a.m. at St. Michael Byzantine Rite Catholic Church in Donora, with the Rev. Father Stephen Wahal as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Dominic Cemetery, Donora. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Southwestern PA Area Agency on Aging, 305 Chamber Plaza, Charleroi, PA 15022.
