Rudy loves to run down the halls in the dairy barn, or any where else his hooves will lead him.
The Brown Swiss bull calf was born at Round Hill Park 6:35 p.m. Dec. 3 to Stella, also a purebred Brown Swiss who initially came to Round Hill from Breezy Ridge Farms in Zelienople.
“The owner came here and we talked to him. We didn’t have any Brown Swiss and he got us Stella. This is her first calf,” said Chris Roland, the park supervisor at Round Hill Park.
Encompassing 1,101 acres in Elizabeth Township, Round Hill Park features an exhibition farm with animals that is open every day of the year. Other amenities include soccer fields, shelters, a spray park and walking and bridle trails. It is operated by the Allegheny County Parks department.
Roland said the park likes to show a variety of breeds so children learn that not all milk cows are black and white spotted like they see in ads and that each breed has a specific purpose in the dairy industry.
The six heifers on the farm include Jerseys, Brown Swiss and Red Holstein. Rudy is currently the only male cow on the property.
