McKeesport Area School Board hired two police officers for the district run police force.
Board directors Joe Lopretto, Mindy Sturgess, James Brown, Tom Filotei, Ivan Hampton, Steven Kondrosky and Jim Poston voted to hire officers Matti Dolfi and Carl Kuzel. Directors Dave Donato and Diane Elias voted no.
The McKeesport Area School District Police Department now has three employees — the two officers who were hired Wednesday and Chief Bob Boyle.
Boyle, a recently retired state trooper who lives in White Oak, was hired in December. His annual salary is $55,000.
Dolfi, who has been a police officer at Duquesne University for 10 years, and Kuzel, who has been a McKeesport police officer for more than 25 years, will be paid $25 per hour.
Lopretto, the board’s president, said the two officers and Boyle will work for the entirety of each school day for approximately 10 months of the year. He said the district is also advertising to hire a fourth officer.
School Board Appreciation
During his superintendent’s report, Dr. Mark Holtzman asked a large group comprised of students from the high school, Founders Hall Middle School and Francis McClure and Twin Rivers elementary schools to stand before the board for School Board Appreciation Month.
During their presentation, the students thanked board directors for their service to the district and the communities it serves before sharing facts they have learned about what the role of a school board is and how decisions of the board affect them.
