The WPIAL unveiled the new football alignment for the upcoming two-year cycle that begins this fall.
After surveying local school districts and administrators on two separate proposals, the WPIAL went with a “status quo” alignment and the other based on a more regionalized plan.
The regionalized plan would have seen teams in different classes in the same conference with a point system to determine playoff seedings.
An overwhelming response back to the WPIAL showed that most liked the status quo alignment, but the WPIAL made some tweaks to the conferences prior to Monday’s release.
