Eagles regain first place with 72-45 win over Bears

The Serra Catholic girls basketball team earned a half game lead in the Section 2-2A standings with a 72-45 victory over Winchester Thurston Saturday afternoon.
The Eagles (9-2, 6-1) used a big second-half effort to pick up the win, outscoring Winchester Thurston, 40-18. Serra held a 32-27 lead at halftime.
Rayna Andrews led the way offensively and on the boards for the Eagles, finishing with 15 points and 17 rebounds for the double-double. Andrews joined Nicole Pawlowski, who scored 13 points, in double figures.
Nadia Moore provided most of the offense for Winchester Thurston (10-3, 5-2), pouring in a game-high 37 points and hitting five 3-pointers.
Winchester Thurston has now lost three straight games after starting the season 10-0.
