Rams claim must-win over South Park

Having lost three consecutive games, Ringgold head coach Phil Pergola pinpointed Tuesday night’s matchup with South Park as the most important game of his team’s season.

Not only would a win put the Rams above .500 in section play with the second half looming, but it gets them back on track after suffering defeats to Uniontown, Thomas Jefferson and Belle Vernon Area.

Ringgold delivered a bounce-back effort, rallying from a five-point halftime deficit to claim a 58-48 victory and put an end to its three-game skid in Section 3-4A play.

“It was a good win,” Pergola said. “We didn’t play well after the first two minutes of the first half, but we came out in the third quarter and took charge.”

Ringgold (8-5, 3-2) trailed by as many as 10 with less than two minutes remaining in the second before Jordan Mayer hit a jumper and Chris Peccon nailed an open 3-pointer to cut the deficit in half at 26-21 by halftime.

“That gave us momentum,” Pergola said. “We went over some things at halftime that us coaches specifically wanted them to do on defense. We made adjustments and those changed the game around.”
