Complaint filed against Shorraw

After a week of collaboration and research, a Monessen resident has filed a civil complaint against Mayor Matt Shorraw for alleged Sunshine Act violations and encouraged other city residents to do the same.

In the Westmoreland County Common Pleas Court action, Ron Mozer accuses Shorraw of violating the state  law that governs open meetings and requires accountability from agencies to deliberate and take official action in public.

After nearly 20 months of absence, Shorraw returned to city hall Jan. 6 with a new majority that includes Councilman Gil Coles, who also hasn’t attended a meeting in nearly two years, and new Councilman Don Gregor.

The majority approved motions from an agenda only seen by the mayor to fire both the city administrator and the solicitor, alter meeting dates and times, and conclude the meeting without hearing public comment.
