Representatives from U.S. Steel joined state Sen. Jim Brewster, state Rep. Bill Kortz, leaders of the West Mifflin Community Foundation and local officials on Friday to announce funding to build a dog park in West Mifflin.

According to foundation President Nick Pisciottano, the park will provide a space for dog owners in West Mifflin and the surrounding communities to bring their pets to socialize, exercise and play.

“West Mifflin borough is unique in that most of our streets do not have sidewalks,” Pisciottano said. “Having this dog park will mean our residents who want to walk their dog won’t have to be walking on the shoulders of the road. So not only is this an added amenity to our community, but helps to serve safety purposes and adds to the quality of life.”

The park is a vision of the foundation, which is a nonprofit organization “devoted to supporting the Borough of West Mifflin and surrounding communities through educational support, charitable giving, and disaster relief,” according to its website.
