County Hauling changes McKeesport trash schedule

After receiving several complaints from McKeesport residents earlier this week that their garbage hadn’t been picked up, County Hauling has increased its number of residential pick-up days.

“In order to meet the requests and needs of Mc-Keesport residents, County Hauling will adjust its trash and recycling schedules to the city’s past pickup routine,” a Facebook post from Mayor Micheal Cherepko’s office states. “Despite County Hauling’s attempt to transition the city to a two-day schedule, Mayor Michael Cherepko and the company’s management have decided that a five-day schedule better suits the McKeesport community.”

Council voted to hire County Hauling, which is based in Rostraver Township, as its trash and recycling services provider during the December council meeting. Trash and recycling was formerly collected by Big’s Sanitation of Rostraver Township, which collected trash in the city five days per week.

County Hauling began collecting trash in the city Monday, and planned to collect on Mondays and Tuesdays of each week. Via phone calls, emails and social media posts, the company and the city received several complaints from residents whose trash had not been picked up and who said they were unaware that collection day had been changed to Mondays and Tuesdays.

The changes to the collection schedule will begin Monday.
