Tigers squeeze past Wolverines

Inside the final minute of his team’s Section 1-5A game against Woodland Hills, McKeesport coach Kevin Kovach gave Travarese Rowe a peck on the cheek for luck.

The freshman stepped to the line and hit one of his two attempts with 46 seconds to go.

That point, and a home-court roll on a Deamontae Diggs free throw with 14 seconds were critical as the Tigers held on to beat the Wolverines, 57-56, at Neenie Campbell Gymnasium Tuesday.

“I gave him a kiss on the cheek before he went out there and I said that’s your good luck,” said Kovach. “The guys on the bench all thought it was funny. Maybe I’ll start doing it more, I don’t know.”
