A man already jailed on charges of killing a baby in East Huntingdon Township has been charged with assaulting his own child in Monessen.

Derrick Bass Sr., 29, of Grande Boulevard, Greensburg is accused of assaulting his 1-year-old son in an apartment on Manown Street in 2018.

Monessen Lt. Dave Yuhasz wrote in an affidavit of probable cause that officers were called to the home Oct. 12, 2018, for a report that Bass has assaulted his girlfriend, Sarah Kolenc, in front of their two children.

Yuhasz wrote that officers noticed the 1-year-old had “a lot of bruises on his head.”

“Upon examination of the child, I noticed bumps on his head, red marks along (the) side of the neck, small cuts to the back of the head,” Yuhasz wrote.
