McKeesport admits ‘hiccup’ with new trash hauling service

County Hauling of Rostraver Township began providing trash collection services for McKeesport on Monday, and the mayor’s office is asking residents to be patient as the company fine tunes its operations in the city.

Via a Facebook post on Tuesday, Mayor Michael Cherepko requested that residents “please bear with County Hauling and the City of McKeesport as we work through this transition into our new garbage collection services.”

County Hauling will collect trash on Mondays and Tuesdays each week. Recycling will be collected every other week on trash collection day. This was the first week of recycling collection. It will be collected again Jan. 20 and 21.

Under the city’s former trash and recycling collection provider, Big’s Sanitation of Rostraver Township, residential trash was collected on a five-day schedule with recycling every other week.

In the post, Cherepko said the city is aware of “a few hiccups on our first day of pickup.”
