At halftime of Tuesday night’s matchup with Beth-Center, Charleroi head coach Bill Wiltz and his staff knew a change was necessary.
The Cougars held a six-point advantage after 16 minutes of play, but they lacked a bit of energy, according to their veteran coach.
“We thought they drug us down to a tempo we didn’t like in the first half,” Wiltz said. “The whole talk at halftime was about picking up the energy and picking up the tempo of the game because the tempo fit them, not us.”
Charleroi changed the tempo and picked up the energy in a big way in the third quarter, outscoring the Bulldogs 33-11 and pulling away for an 85-55 victory in Section 4-3A play.
“We were able to get a couple of quick steals and get the momentum,” Wiltz said. “It was very refreshing because with a six-point lead at halftime, you’re in nerves time. It was nice to see that burst and to be able to relax a little bit.”
