TJ girls out to strong start

Last year was a historic season in more ways than one for the Thomas Jefferson girls basketball program.
The Jaguars advanced to the WPIAL championship game for the first time in 39 years and later moved on to the PIAA semifinals for the first time in program history.
A year later, it might be difficult to assume a team can replicate the type of success TJ had; however, an encore performance to last year’s 22-8 campaign may be on the horizon for the Jaguars.
Second-year head coach Lisa Fairman has her team rolling through the first 10 games of the 2019-20 season. The Jaguars are 8-2 overall and 3-0 in Section 1-5A play.
TJ, which is tied with Chartiers Valley for the top spot in the section, has one more win than it had at this point last season.
“Being in my second year, the returning players now have a year under their belt with the system we run and have experience playing together in that system,” Fairman said. “I think that really helps.”
