Starting 2020 with a splash

About 25 people gathered in Glassport Wednesday to start the new year by jumping in the Monongahela River.

Ranging in age from 6 to 65, they challenged the elements to aid Guardian Angels Medical Service Dogs, which benefits veterans. Together, they raised about $2,300.

Lisa Brinkman, a member of the American Legion’s Ladies Auxiliary, spearheaded the event. She has been making donations to various organizations for years and said this one stands out.

“What made this organization different is the fact that I received a hand-written thank you note after I had sent in a donation,” she said. “I think it is a great organization for veterans.”
