While teams around the region wrapped up tournament play, none may have made a statement like the Monessen girls.

The Greyhounds (6-3) showed their resurgence is for real by knocking off Class 4A West Mifflin, 51-45, Sunday on the final day of the Cal U Holiday Hoopfest at the university’s Convocation Center.

Qitarah Hardison finished with a game-high 22 points to lead the way for Monessen.

The Titans (4-3) were led by Lauren Yuhas’ 14 points. Teammate Shelby Genes chipped in 13 points for West Mifflin.

On Saturday, the Greyhounds knocked off Propel Andrew Street at the hoopfest by a score of 50-35.

It was Hardison again, ripping the nets for 21 points, leading the Greyhounds.

“She played with passion and heart, exactly how I expected her to play this season as a senior and vocal captain,” Monessen coach Janine Vertacnik said. “She showed great patience and poise and gained a lot of much-needed self confidence heading into January.”
