Monessen gave final approval to its 2020 budget Thursday night at a meeting accented with thoughtful goodbyes and hopeful declarations for the coming year.

City residents won’t face a tax increase next year as the budget keeps the rate fixed at 43.11 mills. Expenditures for the upcoming year are projected to be $4,453,675.

Councilman and Acting Mayor Anthony Orzechowski said previously that putting a mechanic on the payroll –– as opposed to outsourcing the work –– has been a great financial help.

After the budget was approved, Orzechowski read a statement listing more than 20 successes from 2019 and thanked each council member, the solicitor and the city administrator for their service to the city.

“It is my hope that the citizens of Monessen feel confident there are leaders in city hall working hard every day to manage their hard-earned money the best way they can and to maximum benefits of the city and the taxpayers,” Orzechowski read.
