A third quarter rally came up short as Monessen fell to Bishop Canevin, 44-38, on the road in Section 2-A play Friday night.

Trailing 24-11 at the half, the Greyhounds (1-6, 1-1) came out and made defensive stops, and chipped away at the Crusaders lead by hitting shots that they didn’t hit in the first half.

“We knew we had to make some changes,” said head coach Dan Bosnic.

“I thought the kids came out with good energy and I think in that third quarter, we showed some of the traits that we have to show going forward to be a good basketball team.

Bosnic credits his squad for playing tough defense, earning more offensive opportunities and knocking down shots to pull within reach.

Monessen held Bishop Canevin to just one field goal in the third quarter, earning the other six of their eight points from the charity stripe.
