Christmas surprise for Monessen teacher

Santa made a special stop at Monessen Elementary Center on Thursday, but he wasn’t just handing out bicycles.

As third grade teacher Chrissy Toye-Zboyovsky sat her students in the gymnasium for the annual Christmas assembly, she had no idea Santa had a special present waiting in the hallway.

The gymnasium full of children in kindergarten through fifth grades cheered, screamed and clapped when Santa showed up to deliver a handful of bikes to four lucky students.

Chrissy sat on the sidelines of the gym among other teachers, supervising the children as names were drawn from a box.

She had no idea that she would be receiving a gift of her own, something a little too big to fit in Santa’s bag of goodies.

After the presents were distributed, Principal Beth Natali said there would be one more surprise.

Pulling one last name — that was not so random — from a box, Chrissy was called to the front of the gymnasium to receive a classroom reward.

She had no idea her son, Ben, whom she thought would not be home from Fort Bragg until next month, was waiting to surprise her.
