Mary Theresa Olexa, 75 of Monessen, passed away on Dec. 18, 2019, surrounded by her family, in her home. She was born in Pittsburgh on May 13, 1944, a daughter of the late Robert C. and Teresa Helzlsouer Burns. Mary Theresa was Catholic by faith and was a member of the Epiphany of Our Lord Church of Monessen. Surviving are her son, Raymond A. and wife Nicole Olexa of Steamboat Springs, Colo.; daughter, Rosemary Vatakis of Donora; grandchildren, Alexa Maria Vatakis, Dana Marie Vatakis, Jackson Raymond Olexa, Grace Avery Olexa and Rae Evelyn Olexa; three brothers, Bob and wife Kathy Burns, of Cazenovia, N.Y., Stephen and wife Janice Burns, of Champion and Ed and wife Ginny Burns, of Monessen; and several nieces and nephews, Jimmy Burns, Jennifer Burns Mauro, Stephen Burns, Jill Allen and Jacqueline Mascotti. Mary Theresa is also survived by Nick Vatakis, the father of her granddaughters; and her beloved dog “Max.” In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond J. Olexa. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the RHOME FUNERAL HOME INC., 1209 Grand Blvd., Monessen, where friends will be welcomed from 1 to 3 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 20. Funeral services will take place at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 21 with a blessing service in the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 10:00 a.m. at the Epiphany of Our Lord Church of Monessen with Father Michael J. Crookston officiating. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery of Charleroi. Online condolences may be conveyed to the family at www.rhomefuneralhome.com.
