John C. Mayfield, 77, of Monessen, formerly of New Martinsville, W.Va., died Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2019, while at Allegheny Hospital in Pittsburgh. John was born Jan. 30, 1942 in Canton, Ohio, the son of the late John C. and Mary G. Sulsberger Mayfield. He was a retired employee for Corning Glass Works starting in Paden City and finishing in Charleroi, having worked as quality control, shift supervisor, accounting and engineering technician. He was a member of the Roscoe Gun Club and he volunteered once a week for many years at the St. Vincent de Paul Catholic charity store. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Mayfield (2016). Surviving are his son, John T. Mayfield of Monessen; and daughter, Jill C. (Charley) Dunn of South Charleston, W.Va. Friends will be received noon to 3 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 22, 2019, at JARVIS-WILLIAMS FUNERAL HOME, 1224 S. Bridge St., New Martinsville, W.Va. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in Greenlawn Memorial Park in New Martinsville, W.Va. Memorial contributions may be made in John’s name to Wetzel County Animal Shelter, 399 Mollahan Dr., New Martinsville, W.Va. 26155. Expression of sympathy may be made www.jarvisfuneralhomes.com.
