The senior duo of Marquell Smith and Dawayne Howell is one that Monessen head coach Dan Bosnic knew he would have to rely on before the season started.
In the Greyhounds’ first section matchup Tuesday night against Jefferson Morgan, the two proved Bosnic’s prediction to be true, combining to score 61 points and posting double doubles in a 82-60 thumping of the Rockets in Section 2-A play.
“Those guys did a great job at scoring the basketball tonight.” Bosnic said. “We’ve relied on them the first couple games and we’ll continue to rely on them throughout the course of the season. Right now, the kids understand that we have to get them the ball and they did a great job at doing that tonight.”
The victory came as a first for the Hounds (1-5, 1-0), who have in recent years, never been winless this late in the season.
