Five area wrestling teams were busy in four tournaments over the weekend.

While the team finishes don’t look so great at first glance, some individual wrestlers made their mark.

North Coast Classic

Belle Vernon Area and Ringgold competed at the 32-team North Coast Classic in Independence, Ohio over the weekend.

BVA’s Cole Weightman came away with the 195-pound championship, pinning Zach Porch of Berea-Midland, Ohio, in the second period of the final to cap a dominating performance. Weightman (8-0) won seven matches with five coming via pinfall to earn the gold.

“Cole was a little under the weather but steamrolled through the bracket, even in the final,” said first-year BVA coach Bob Bove. “He was able to use different moves that he normally doesn’t and we are real happy that he was still dominant.”
