Salvation Army behind on kettle drive

Donations to the Salvation Army are reported to be down all over the state, and that includes local donations as well.
Capt. Sue Thwaite, who oversees Salvation Army Mon Valley Citadel in Monessen, said illness has hit the charity hard this year.
“The flu season has been so bad this year that we are having trouble keeping the doors manned,” she said.
With fewer bell ringers manning the kettles, less money is coming in to help the organization get through the year.
“We have a goal of $60,000. Right now we are sitting right at $30,000 with 10 days left. We’re a little behind,” Thwaite said. “We get a little scared when we’re halfway with 10 days left.”
