South Allegheny middle and high school students were dismissed from school early Thursday after a bed bug was found in SA Middle/High School.

“Today we found a confirmed bed bug at the middle/high school,” the district posted on its website and Facebook page. “Finding one does not mean that the building is infested, however, in an abundance of caution, SA will have a licensed pest control specialist treat the entire middle/high school including every classroom, the office areas and lockers.”

SA Middle/High School “will be off limits/closed for classes and after-school activities until Friday night, including the Fitness Center,” an alert from the district states.

“In summary: middle and high school students will be dismissed early today and will not have school Friday.”

South Allegheny Elementary Center and the Education Center did not have an early dismissal Thursday and will be open today. Students who attend those facilities are expected to report to school at their regularly scheduled time, the alert states.

Breakfast with Santa and the Hall of Trees display, which were both slated for Saturday at the high school, have been canceled.
