Happy trails to Monongahela mayor

Mayor Bob Kepics’ last Monongahela council meeting had a little bit of everything — including a couple of cowboys sending him off with a George Strait classic.

Kepics said since it was the last time the audience would hear from him, he was going to take the time to “say a little bit.”

He thanked his wife and family for putting up with all the years that he invested so much time into community service, causing him to miss recitals and plays along the way.

“I took over when there was a lot of problems in the city,” Kepics said.

He ran for mayor as a councilman and started the first of three terms in 2008.

“There were drugs everywhere, problems with one of the police and everything,” Kepics said. “I want to thank Brian Tempest, who I made my chief, and Steve Toprani the (then-Washington County) DA. I probably have 2,000 drug busts under me.

“You can walk down the streets of Monongahela without anyone bothering you. We worked hard at it. We cleaned up the streets and the businesses came back.”
