A young South Allegheny team continued their hot start to the season Wednesday.
The Gladiators stormed into Charleroi and rolled out with a 67-42 non-section win to hand the Cougars their first loss and move to 4-0 on the young season.
“We’re a young team and being able to come in here and get a win on the road against a playoff team is big for us,” South Allegheny coach Tony DiCenzo said. “We’re really happy with the result.”
The Cougars (2-1) had no answer for the Gladiators’ length inside, namely Omar Faulkner.
Faulkner led South Allegheny, notching a double-double with 17 points, 11 rebounds and six blocks.
“He’s a big boy and we knew we’d have our hands full with him,” Charleroi coach Bill Wiltz said. “They’re athletic, too. We wanted to take him out of the game but that wasn’t working early.”
