The Frazier wrestling team didn’t get the first win in school history as they hoped Wednesday night.
But superstar Thayne Lawrence had a memorable night, achieving a big individual milestone in the Commodores’ 50-24 loss to Mt. Pleasant in both teams’ Class 2A subsection 3B opener.
The Lehigh recruit joined the century club with his 100th career victory, pinning the Vikings’ Jack Kramer in 1:58 of the 182-pound match for Frazier’s only win on the mat.
“I’ve been wrestling here for four years and it’s hard getting that achievement at a small school,” said Lawrence. “I feel good getting there and getting it done. Now I have to refocus and go to Ironman this weekend and compete there as hard as I can and see how it plays out.”
Frazier coach Buck Watkins couldn’t be prouder watching Lawrence get the mark.
“This is a proud moment for me as a coach, watching Thayne grow and get better every year,” said Watkins. “I’m grateful for the opportunity to have an athlete of that caliber on my team and I hope the others follow suit.”
