For the first quarter and a half of Tuesday night’s tilt against Sewickley Academy, Serra Catholic looked destined to have a chance at its second win of the young season.
The last 20-plus minutes, however, belonged to the Panthers as they rolled past the Eagles, 78-54, in nonsection play.
With the game tied at 20-20, Sewickley Academy (1-1) went on a 12-4 run in the final 4:14 of the first half, taking a 32-24 advantage into halftime.
From there, the Panthers cruised, outscoring the Eagles, 46-30, in the second half.
“We got two steals at 20-20 and we either gave it right back or we took a bad shot on a one on three. That kills your momentum,” Serra Catholic head coach Justin Walther said. “They took it to us the rest of the half and we were hanging our heads in the locker room. We acted like it was the end of the world and we kinda knew we weren’t going to recover.”
