The Rostraver Police Department, along with other local first responders, the Bag Brigade and Froggy Radio, are teaming up to help fulfill children’s wishes this Christmas with a “Santa Cop” event.
Beginning at 6 a.m. Thursday and continuing for 12 straight hours at the Rostraver Walmart, representatives from the police department, three fire departments and Rostraver Emergency Medical Services and nonprofit Bag Brigade will be encouraging shoppers to give back while they’re doing their holiday buying.
Similar to the well-known “angel tree” style of anonymous giving, the day’s programming will resemble that approach, but will differ in a few ways. In addition to toys and gifts, shoppers can purchase and donate items such as clothing and clothes, and the Bag Brigade will be accepting food items during the day.
Rostraver Chief of Police Greg Resetar is hoping the first-year event will be a hit with the community and said an effort has been to include many local organizations.
“It’s our first year and we wanted to try to keep it as localized as possible in order to do that, I was reaching out to the school district and guidance counselors,” Resetar said.
