‘Legendary’ heroics lead Charleroi to comeback win

The Charleroi boys basketball team found itself in an early hole when facing California Saturday afternoon in the finals at the Trojans Tipoff Tournament.

The Cougars were down by eight at the end of one quarter and then trailed by 11 at halftime.

It seemed perhaps it would take a “legendary” second-half performance from someone to turn the tide for Charleroi.

Cue Legend Davis.

Not only did the senior forward score all 11 of his points in the second half and shut down Cal’s leading scorer, Malik Ramsey, in the final 16 minutes of play, he also garnered the game-winning tip-in with seconds left to give Charleroi a thrilling 58-56 victory over the host Trojans.

“In any sport, I always pride myself on defense,” Davis said. “I knew tonight, on defense, I would have a tough task slowing their top scorer down. I just stuck with it and we were able to slow him down late. We won this game with our defense.”
