Delsandro Memorial Committee makes donations to nonprofits

The A.P. Delsandro Memorial in Donora has stood in memory of former mayor Albert P. Delsandro since the mid-1980s and the committee to maintain it has been doing good in the community ever since.
The committee holds a golf tournament each year to raise funds to maintain the memorial and to make charitable contributions to other Donora nonprofits.
This year, Donora Public Library and Donora Youth Sports each got $500.
A.P. Delsandro’s son, Tom Delsandro, and his nephews Paul Delsandro and Ron Delsandro, make up the three-member committee.
Earlier this year the committee began rebuilding the memorial, which was demolished three years ago after tree roots and weather damaged the masonry features at the site near the intersection of Sixth Street and Meldon Avenue.
Tom Delsandro hopes to create a memorial that will welcome families and honor the wartime sacrifices of Donora residents and their families.
