Victory in Hershey was especially sweet for seniors

For four years, seniors on the Thomas Jefferson football team scratched and clawed.

They entered each game with lofty aspirations, including one day standing on the field at Hersheypark Stadium and lifting a state championship trophy.

In the last game of their high school football careers Thursday, the dream was realized when the 13 seniors — along with the rest of their Jaguar comrades — earned a convincing 46-7 victory over Dallas to give TJ its fourth PIAA title in program history.

“They set the bar so high for themselves that nothing else was going to be good enough,” TJ head coach Bill Cherpak said of his senior class, which helped bring TJ its first PIAA title since 2008.

“For them to come through and achieve this, it’s just amazing.”
