Duane R. Prosser, 90, of McKeesport, died Nov. 25, 2019, at home. Born Dec. 9, 1928, in McKeesport, he was the son of the late Harry D. “Bud” and Freda (Rink) Prosser and the husband of Elizabeth Mary “Betty” Murawski Prosser. Duane was retired from Penn State University, McKeesport campus, where he was a professor emeritus of mechanical engineering with 30 years of service. He previously worked as a mechanical engineer for Westinghouse Bettis; Navy Department – Bureau of Aeronautics (Washington, D.C.); Naval Electronics Laboratory (San Diego, Calif.); Ryan Aeronautical Co. (San Diego, Calif.) and as a consultant as an “expert witness” as a mechanical engineer in product liability court cases. Duane was a school director of the McKeesport Area School District from 1972 to 1978. He was also on the civil service commission, the parking authority, and the Carnegie Library board of the city of McKeesport. Duane was a registered professional engineer in Pennsylvania and California. He was a graduate of Warren G. Harding High School in Warren, Ohio, and Kiski Prep School. He had a bachelor of science in mechanical engineering from San Diego State University and a master’s degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Pittsburgh. Duane was a U.S. Marine veteran, serving during World War II. He enlisted into the Marine Corps in Warren, Ohio. He was a member of the Beulah Park United Methodist Church of McKeesport. Duane was an F&AM and a member of the American Society of Engineering Education; the American Society of Automotive Engineers and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. Duane met his wife, Betty, at a dance hall in Pittsburgh and they enjoyed many years dancing together. He had such a fun-loving personality and especially liked making people laugh with his jokes and sense of humor. Duane was an avid runner and ran in the Marine Corps Marathon. He enjoyed playing golf and spending a lot of time with his family. He was a wonderful husband, dad and grandpa and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. In addition to his wife, Duane is also survived by his children, Larry D. Prosser of Shaler, Lee (Lisa) Prosser of Irwin and Lisa (Max) Moss of Windsor, Colo.; grandchildren, Chet, Emily, Carly, Tyler, Matthew and Macey; along with a niece and nephews. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Linda M. Prosser; daughter-in-law, Karen Prosser; and nephew, Ronald McClelland. Family and friends will be received at Jaycox-Jaworski Funeral Home and Crematory from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Nov. 29. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Beulah Park United Methodist Church of McKeesport. Burial will follow in St. Mary Polish Cemetery of White Oak.
