Alexander J. Mastroianni – formerly of Monongahela

Alexander J. Mastroianni, formerly of Monongahela, passed away Nov. 13, 2019, in Niagara Hospice House. Born Oct. 26, 1942, in Monongahela, he was the son of John and Josephine “Pena” Mele Mastroianni. Alex earned his master’s degree of science and worked from the early 1960s to the mid-’70s for Paradise Construction and HGR Construction. He then worked for the Lockport School District for 35 years, retiring in 1999. Alex started at North Park Junior High School, where he was a math teacher for 17 years before moving to Lockport High School for 18 years. He was the math department chair, the ninth-grade class advisor, served as treasurer of the Lockport Education Association (LEA), worked on special projects for NSA and helped develop a program for graphing calculators and traveled across the country to train and promote the program. Alex was the first person at Lockport High School to have the yearbook dedicated to him. After retiring from education, he worked from 1999-2014 for H&R Block, where he was a tax consultant and was office manager for one year. Alex enjoyed golfing, hunting, reading, gardening and especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Alex is survived by his wife, Andrea Drotos Mastroianni; a daughter, Joni (David) Owens of LaPlata, Md.; and a son Lee (Lori) Mastroianni of Herndon, Va.; four grandchildren, Jennifer Johnson, Kellie Johnson, Gage Mastroianni and Stella Mastroianni; a great-grandson, Cameron Kirk; a sister, Giovanna Zanardelli of Monongahela; and a brother, John (Donna) Mastroianni of Greer, S.C.; along with several nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian burial was held on Friday, Nov. 22, in St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, 168 Chestnut St., Lockport, N.Y.
