It will be a season of change for the Belle Vernon Area wrestling team.

Only two starters return from a team that was already low on numbers a year ago and one that ended up ravished by injuries. In fact, the Leopards ended the season with only four healthy wrestlers.

BVA will also have a new man in charge; however, he is very familiar to the his wrestlers and the entire wrestling community. Bob Bove takes over for Mike Doppelheuer after assisting him the previous three seasons. It’s not Bove’s first rodeo as he had two stints as Ringgold’s head coach. He also coached at McGuffey.

Leading the way for Belle Vernon will be sophomores Cole Weightman and Logan Hoffman. They will serve as captains along with the only senior on the roster, Chase Walker.

“Cole and Logan had solid freshman seasons although Cole battled injury all year,” said Bove. “Obviously we expect both guys to progress. They are state-place caliber wrestlers and we want hardware brought back from Hershey.”
