The Elizabeth Forward wrestling team is coming off consecutive quarterfinal finishes in the WPIAL Class 2A playoffs and has one of the best returning wrestlers in the state.

However, veteran coach Richard Scheuermann isn’t taking anything for granted and knows that the season is long and much can happen.

“We are ranked number three in 2A right now but that doesn’t mean anything,” said Scheuermann, who is entering his 27th season as head coach of the Warriors.

“We want to end the season worried about the rankings but we need to make the playoffs first, which isn’t guaranteed.”

EF lost to Quaker Valley, 48-30, in last year’s quarterfinals. The Warriors also wrestled eventual WPIAL champion Burrell tough in the section semifinals. They did lose three solid guys to graduation in Chris Bruce, RJ Buchina and Nate Homa, all of whom were fixtures in the lineup.
