Even though the Mon Valley Sewage Authority Board had to cancel its meeting Monday morning, Yancey Taylor still submitted his letter of resignation.
Last Thursday, the Washington County District Attorney’s office filed a petition seeking an injunction against the sewage board stating Taylor’s position on the board violates the state Constitution.
Taylor pleaded guilty to two felonies in March, making him ineligible for public office according under the Constitution.
Initially, Taylor said he would resign following his plea deal, but he ultimately did not. That changed after the district attorney’s petition Thursday.
“I’m blessed to have stayed on this long considering the circumstances,” Taylor said Monday morning outside the meeting, which was canceled because it hadn’t been advertised properly. “I never, never wanted anything bad. The right thing to do is to follow the law. The law says I cannot be on the board.”
