As Santa meets with children Friday at Chess Park, Mrs. Claus will be holding court at the Monongahela Area Library gazebo, and the wife of the jolly old elf has a pretty decent following of her own.
“Once Mrs. Claus comes in, it’s pretty hard to walk from one side of the library to the other,” said library director Amy Riegner. “She’s really kind to the kids and they love her. She meets with every kid who comes through here. She has homemade hats that she gives to the kids.”
Mrs. Claus is known the rest of the year as Dorothy Jackson, the 88-year-old owner of the Memory Tree. She has sewn more than 200 reversible flannel night caps that she will be handing out to the children.
“Because I have something to do, I think that’s why I feel good even though I’m getting older,” Jackson said. “The only thing that bothers me is I can’t drive.”
