With Thanksgiving and Christmas right around the corner, communities are preparing for the sights, sounds and smells of the holiday season.

Lights, food, music, gifts and a visit by Santa are all staples of the various Light Up Nights and holiday celebrations that kick off this most wonderful time of the year.

“It showcases some of the businesses you have and gets people to come into town who might not normally visit,” West Newton Mayor Mary Popovich said of holiday celebrations. “It’s great for tourism and it promotes family activities.”

And it’s not just the residents of communities who help ring in the holidays.

Local businesses get in on the festivities by sponsoring events or hosting their own celebrations.
