Tigers unable to fend off Gators

Getting the most out of their team at the most critical point of the season is the primary objective of any coach.

McKeesport head coach Matt Miller got the absolute most from his team Friday night, but unfortunately it was just not enough.

Gateway advanced to the WPIAL Class 5A championship game against Peters Township next Saturday after the Gators eliminated the Tigers with a 14-7 win at Offutt Field in Greensburg.

The game was a sharp contrast of the two teams’ previous meeting in the final game of the regular season. Gateway hammered McKeesport, 36-7, in that contest.

“I couldn’t be prouder of my team, they played their butts off,” Miller said. “We played some guys who have never started before. To slow them down a little bit and for us to move the ball as well as we did, I’m as proud as can be and I told them that.”
