Local veterans treated to lunch

By Mon Valley Independent

An old saying states “there’s no such thing as a free lunch.”

But don’t tell that to the approximately 25 military veterans who were treated to lunch by the women of the Naomi Outreach ladies club Thursday afternoon at the Hibachi Buffet in Belle Vernon.

The lunch was the ladies’ way of expressing thanks to veterans, which the club does throughout the year in various ways.

The club’s founder, North Belle Vernon resident Joni Kelley, said the club has been inviting veterans to the lunch for more than 10 years.

Kelley said the luncheon is held every year for Memorial Day and Veterans Day.

“We started doing this as a way to honor the veterans,” Kelley said. “But now, they visit with each other and they look forward to it, and we look forward to honoring them.”
