Donora hires administrator, but not without controversy

Donora council hired a borough administrator at Thursday’s meeting despite a battle about how the vote came up.

At the end of the written agenda, Councilman John Conger said he had something to discuss under new business.

“Over the last several months, we’ve been struggling to hire a borough administrator,” Conger said. “I’ve been watching Mrs. (Terri) Petrosky running the whole office by herself. She knows this borough from the bottom up and is a lifelong resident.

“It’s my honor to put her name up for nomination to hire Terri Petrosky at a salary of $45,000.”

Because Petrosky’s husband, public works director Mike Petrosky, already has the family insurance plan through the borough, her hiring won’t cost Donora anything more in benefits.

Conger also said the salary is likely $10,000 less than what would attract another candidate with administrator experience.

“We’re probably saving $35,000,” Conger said.
