Monongahela council will consider a new mixed-use zoning plan that would leave the Monongahela Elementary Center and surrounding parcels as they are and would instead rezone only the properties that abut Dry Run Road.
Earlier this year, council proposed changing the Monongahela Elementary Center-Dry Run Road corridor into a mixed-use zone, but residents that live near MEC protested the idea.
Last month, after hearing from residents, council decided to indefinitely table the bill. Councilman Ken Kulak told third-ward residents at the time that they could potentially form a community action group that might spearhead a new direction for their neighborhood. Several meetings were held.
Last night, Councilwoman Claudia Williams proposed drafting a new bill that would revoke the original zoning plan in favor of a new bill that would rezone the Route 136 or Dry Run Road corridor only.
