Veterans Day was marked Monday at Elizabeth Forward Middle School with a patriotic assembly honoring area veterans.
About three dozen veterans from the community attended the 17th annual Veterans Day assembly, along with their families as guests. Members of Blaine Hill VFW Post 7632 and American Legion Post 553 posted the colors as the school orchestra played “The Star Spangled Banner.”
“It is a very special day, one we all love sharing with our students, staff, community and veterans,” said Dr. Tricha Martell, the building principal. “Thank you for all you have done for our community and our country.”
State Rep. Mike Puskaric, R-Elizabeth Township, told the students to remember the hard work and sacrifices made by the generations that have come before them. The depth of those sacrifices was emphasized as the veterans presented the POW/MIA Honor Table ceremony, noting that those taken prisoner or missing in action should never be forgotten. The table set for one was at the center of the assembly.
“It’s our way of symbolizing that some are missing from our midst. Some call them POWs and MIAs. We call them comrades,” said VFW Post 7632 Lt. Commander Rick Elster.
