Soldiers killed long ago now being identified

When “Homecoming: Sgt. Hamilton’s Long Journey” debuted at Ringgold Middle School last week, a panel discussion followed that included two people dedicated to returning missing soldiers to their families.
When Monongahela’s Sgt. Vernon Hamilton’s plane was shot down over Germany during World War II, his family waited decades for his return.
Two organizations that made his journey home possible — the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency and History Flight — were represented during the panel discussion and talked about how important it is to bring all the heroes home.
Retired Marine Sgt. Maj. Justin LeHew, chief operating officer of History Flight, said the drive to bring home every missing military member is a fulfillment of a promise that everyone makes when they join the service.
